Vandermark's homage to Sun Ra.  A tour de force stomp groove recording.  The cd includes 13 vintage cosmic standards from the classic Sun Ra LP's Sound Of Joy and Sun Song (both 1957); We Travel The Spaceways (1959/60); and The Futuristic Sounds of Sun Ra (1961). The Funkadelic albums and singles tackled include Red Hot Mama (1970); Maggot Brain (1971); Cosmic Slop (1973); and Standing On The Verge Of Getting It On (1974).

More than a cover, Vandermark, McBride, and Drake manage to deliver a stirring tribute without transforming the music beyond its original aesthetic.
