Solos Duos CD Cover

Jessica Pavone is a string instrumentalist and composer based in New York City. Most recently, she has worked with the String Army (which she co-founded in 2000), the Jackson Moore Laboratory Band, the Correspondence Quartet, and the Greenwich Village Orchestra.

Her music has been heard throughout the northeast in venues such as the Kitchen in New York and Real Art Ways in Hartford, Connecticut. She is currently working in collaboration with guitarist/composer, Mary Halvorson on a series of new compositions for guitar and viola.

As a violist, she has worked with composers such as Butch Morris, Evan Hause, James Fei, Assif Tsahar, Kevin O'Neil, Andre Vida, and Seth Misterka.

After early studies with Jackie McLean and Robert Carl, Jackson Moore joined the music community of Middletown, Connecticut, where he cofounded the Correspondence Quartet, the Middletown Creative Orchestra, and the Middletown Three.

In Middletown, he became heavily involved with the myriad projects of composer Anthony Braxton, performing with his Ghost Trance Ensemble since 1997, recording a 4-CD set compiling the music of the Tristano School, co-conducting the Slovenian National Radio Orchestra.

He has also performed in the quartets and quintets of James Fei, Chris Jonas, William Hooker, Kevin Norton, Brandon Evans, and Kevin O'Neil. Since 1999 he has resided in New York City, where he organizes events with the Tri-Centric Foundation, the CIC, and the Overground.

Solos/Duos

Jessica Pavone (viola)
   Jackson Moore (alto saxophone)

Two duets and two solos, featuring Pavone and Moore.   Recorded over the course of a year while the two made music on a continous basis, the music is, as the Wire said, "strangely compelling."  Exploring the full range of possibilities extent in their instruments, these four tracks are more fine proof that the future of improvisation is in good hands.

"Moore appears here with viola-playing partner Jessica Pavone in an intelligent and thought-provoking set of duets and solos -- two of each, interleaved.  There's a touch of good old American Experimentalism here...these two are certainly names to look out for." -- Dan Warburton, Paris Transatlantic Review
