Eighth House: Riding with Pluto The Eighth House: Riding with Pluto is the first solo work by Wendell Harrison. Wendell is best know for his work with the seminal Detroit group The Tribe. The Tribe represented black self-actualization in the 1970s, at a time when Detroit desperately needed it. This recording references that work. Harrison weaves in and out of first take free improvisations with fluency and skill. His joined on three tracks by percussionist Juma Santos who is best known for his work on Miles Davis' Bitches Brew album as well as some great work on the Wildflowers compilations. Highlights on this disc include the haunting "Dirge for Harold McKinney" recorded on the night of the influential pianist's death; and the first appearance of Wendell's composition for tenor "Jazz On the Run." Comes highly recommended. 9 tracks in 48:47 minutes :::>>> Tell A Friend About This CD From Drimala You might also enjoy listening to: Emancipation Proclamation (Drake and McPhee) Places to Go (Jack Wright) Live At the Glenn Miller Cafe (Doyle and Murray) Soul Bodies (Tsahar and Drake) Space (Mitchell, Buckner, Oshita) And William Danced (Parker, Drake, and Gaynold) Home Cookin (Tsahar and Ibarra) Vintage Duets (Anderson and McCall) Transmissions (Silva and Thomas) The Dried Rat-Dog (Drake and Brötzmann) Points, Snags and Windings (Butcher and van der Schyff) Grand Marquis (McPhee and McLellan) |
