When
The Lost Becomes Found Michael Jefry Stevens (piano) Herb Robertson (trumpet) Joe Fonda (bass, flute) Harvey Sorgen (drums) Jimmy Williams (guitar) This gem of a recording caught us completely by surprise. It is always interesting when an established working entity like the Stevens Quartet introduces a new musician to the lineup. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. When The Lost Becomes Found is definately a case of it working. Williams is a relatively unknown guitarist (to watch for in the future) who brings a sense of openness and freedom to this quartet that pushes the group to new concepts in group improvisation. The music is open, rhythmical, lyrical, dense, sparse, honest, and always moving forward...what more can you ask for. Comes with our highest recommendation.
