One third of the DeChellis, Tomasic, Nakatani Trio  (Real Time), Philip is heard here in a solo context.  While he is a strictly non-genre specific improviser, his playing resonates with the sound of music completely rooted in tradition.

On Figure Tomasic turns in a set of pieces that run the gamut of approaches from freewheeling, atonal slide guitar to delicately plucked, and highly impressionistic chording. What Tomasic has... is a sense of restraint in the midst of what's plainly a ferociously anarchic sensibility - there's blues in there, and Feldman, too; phrases straight out of post bop and yet moments where he's doing his best to emulate an entire gamelan orchestra.

He has recorded and performed with Gerry Hemingway and the Masashi Harada Trio with Matt Maneri, and the Masashi Harada Condanction Octet.
