Selected Clips: Brian Glick moved to New York to study English at Columbia University. He also studied electronic music under Xenakis pupil Thanassis Rikakis, and worked as a programmer for WKCR-FM. From there, he began to study with saxophone legends David S. Ware and Kalaparusha Maurice McIntyre (of Chicago's AACM); a more intense interest in composition led him to a longstanding association with saxophonist/composer Sonny Simmons. He has also studied with Leroy Jenkins and William Parker; he has performed with Mr. Simmons, Archie Shepp, Sunny Murray, Kevin Norton, Rashid Bakr, Sean G. Meehan, Brandon Evans, Daniel Carter, and many others. He was a member of the NY composer-run collective CIC, and has been a member of the Anthony Braxton Tentet since 2000. Through many graces, he was introduced to the work of Middletown, CT, ensembles and composers, who fostered his growing interest in composition as both a method of extended improvisation and of more formal structural concerns. He has continued to expand and explore the possibilities of large ensemble organization (documented in his debut CD, Trophy), chamber group work, and laboratory-theater structures. |
