What's In A Name We have often been asked the meaning behind the title of Beyond Noend with Errante............... Every so often a musical artist or recording concept comes along that defies historical or cultural boundaries, defies simplistic labels, and defies our preconceptions of what should be. When this occurs, the musical experience transcends the moment of listening, or even the artist himself. Something like this occurred when we first heard the aesthetic constructs of Gerry Errante. Long known internationally as a first rate interpreter of modern classical music, clearly he had the technical skills to undertake the most demanding of projects. But at this rarified level of performance, unquestioned technical skills are simply the price of entry. What we heard went beyond technical skills. We heard an artist performing from the very depth of his soul, searching in every phrase, to go beyond the written note, go beyond genre, and go beyond the technical perfection that his listening audiences had come to expect. Thus, the beyond part was easy. Noend is simply a new word, as we are most wont to do here at Drimala, that is synonymous with exceeding boundaries, exceeding limits, and exceeding genre. When we commissioned Gerry to write Silent Tears for this CD, noend is what we wanted. And noend is what we received in a beautifully unified composition that brings together a number of different styles in a universal prayer for suffering children. And, yes, while some of the other tracks on this recording project can be readily labeled as possibly coming from this or that style, collectively, they are beyond noend. So, enjoy your journey as you go Beyond Noend with Errante.
