Song for A Singer

Welcome to Us
   Dennis Gonzalez (trumpet and fluegelhorn)
   Nils Petter Molvaer (trumpet)
   Sidsel Endresen (voice)
   Bugge Wesseltoft (piano, synthesizer)
   Terje Gewelt (bass)
   Pål Thowsen (drums, percussion)

In 1991, Dennis Gonzalez toured Poland and Norway with the band shown here during which time this recording was made.  Originally released in 1994 on GOWI Records in Poland and then later in 1996 on Koch Jazz, this is the original version that has been so elusive.  This hard bop/free jazz recording features a group of musicians, Sidsel Endresen, Nils Peter Moelvaer, Bugge Wesseltoft, Terje Gewelt, and Pål Thowsen, that went off to bigger lights compliments of ECM.

But those ECM recordings came after this and what we have here is the raw embryonic music of the period that is extremely refreshing and one of the best in the Gonzalez extensive discography...certainly the closest he has ever sounded to being European.

Comes with our highest recommendation.
