Selected Clips: Seth Misterka began his musicial activity in the underground noise scene of Western Massachusetts. With his friends Diagram:A, and proof of the shooting... he started the cassette label "Sound Probe Recordings" which released intricately packaged cassettes of electronic noise. Misterka issued his first project "Rock and Roll Deconstruction Structures" (1996), a cassette wrapped in a melted vinyl with the sounds of Misterka destroying well-known rock records, on Sound Probe. After spending time living in Spain as an exchange student, Misterka returned to the U.S. determined to pursue a career in music. He began playing saxophone and working with computer music as a philosophy student at Wesleyan University (Middletown, CT). Under the mentorship of Anthony Braxton, he aided the development of a vibrant creative music scene in Middletown through his activities as a perfomer, promoter, and record producer . He was a co-founder of The Middletown Creative Orchestra, the leader or co-leader of a number of smaller groups (including CCM4, The Middletown 3, and Scrapyard N), and the founder of Newsonic Records. Misterka was also a member of Braxton's Ghost Trance Ensmble performing at a number of European festivals including Jazz em Agosto, Verona Jazz, and Banlieues Bleues. In 1999, he moved to New York entering a period of intense poverty and solitude. The musical result of this period was the critically accalimed solo CD "MOH". After releasing "MOH" Misterka began organizing concerts around the city with CIC (Kevin Norton, James Fei, Brian Glick, Jackson Moore, Chris Jonas, and Misterka). He also began performing solo concerts as well as leading his own bands including Seth Misterka and the Misterka Clones, The Demon, and Dynasty . In the summer of 2001, Misterka toured Japan with his old Middletown cohorts CCM4. Upon returning, he issued critically acclaimed CDs from the Misterka Clones, and The Demon. Currently, Misterka resides in his Brooklyn studio where he hosts recording sessions and concerts. |
President's Day The highly acclaimed debut release from one of New York City's most advanced post-jazz bands. As you would expect from Misterka, the music just keeps coming at you without any let up, continuously evolving in sound and intensity. Comes highly recommended "President's Day is scrupulously choreographed. This is gutsy and imaginative music played by The Clones with total commitment." -- The Wire "Misterka is an important though largely unrecognized player who came of age under Anthony Braxton's mentorship...supersaturated with hard-rock energy, his songs interweave thrash riffs, circus-like motifs, ghostly drones, spky improvs, cosmic ascents reminisnscent of Alber Ayler, and speed-demon assaults that recall John Zorn's Nake City. The combined effect is a headbanger's ball for post-rock jazzheads." -- Sam Prestianni, Jazziz 6 tracks in 45:41 minutes :::>>> Tell A Friend About This CD From Drimala You might also enjoy listening to: Dynasty (Misterka Trio) Elixir (Hal Russell's Chemical Feast) Koi/Klops (Milo Fine's Free Jazz Ensemble) Branches (Northwoods Ensemble) XMARSX (Mars Williams Band) Polish Theater Posters (Andrew Drury Ensemble) |
