On the Run Fred Anderson is one of the founders of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM). Up to now his individual sound has been under documented but this CD will help allow Fred to be recognized as an important musician in the Chicago tenor tradition, a tradition he helped shape in avant garde jazz. On The Run is an apt title for an album on which the players stay in constant movement in the pursuit of fresh meaning. Sometimes the improvising is smooth as velvet and sometimes it's as tough as nails. In either case, revelation is straight ahead when this trio convenes at Anderson's treasured temple, the Velvet Lounge, where he has held court for 20 some years. Comes highly recommended. 5 tracks in 72:52 minutes You might also enjoy listening to: The Missing Link (Anderson, Hayrod, Drake, Rudolph) Live At the Velvet Lounge (Anderson, Drake, Kowald) Live At the Glenn Miller Cafe (Arthur Doyle, Sonny Murray) Fred Anderson/DKV (Anderson, Drake, Kessler, Vandermark) |
