Itz'
at This first recording in Ernesto's ongoing series of solo piano improvisations offers a wonderful tapestry of minimalism, both in the brevity of the pieces, and in the spare use of sound. These pieces are thought-provoking, unhurried miniature sketches that combine idioms of modern classical and jazz. The sound quality of Itz' at (Mayan word for artist) is excellent. You can hear the vibration of the hammers on the strings, which Ernesto allows to play themselves out in their entirety as he paints his intimate portraits with the least amount of notes. Clearly a prime example of the axiom that "less is more" with echoes of Satie. This music must be listened to with the utmost attention for the entire recording is an experience in extreme calm and tranquillity. Highly recommended music and introduction to the world of Ernesto Diaz-Infante. Total playing time 67:34 minutes.
