David S. Ware interprets Sonny Rollins' 1958 tour de force work here.  The original 19-minute recording with Oscar Pettiford and Max Roach is one of the great jazz classics of all times.  But here Ware brings the four-part suite forward, expanding it to 40 minutes in an extraordinarily sensitive interpretation.

As Ware explained in an interview about this recording, "This is a perfect opportunity to show the link between me and Sonny, an opportune time to show how one generation is built upon another and how the relationships work in the whole stream of music that's called jazz."

Comes with our highest recommendation.
