Rotcod Zzaj, aka Dick Metcalf, is the (irr) reverend, or should we say, raconteur, of experimental spoken word, piano stylings, and other strange and wondrous sounds. Labeled early on in his career as playing backward jazz, his music has thankfully grown even more backward ever since. As Splendid Ezine once wrote about Rotcod Zzaj's music "Everyone should have at least one CD from the ever-expanding (like the universe???) Zzaj Productions catalog!" And we quite agree...except, why stop at one? |
Elements of Suspense Mark Kissinger compositions on prepared guitars joined by San Francisco improvisor Ernesto Diaz-Infante and Rotcod Zzaj in one WILD romp through the elements. " First off this a far out and noisy recording that reminds me a lot of the great Edgar Varese. There's also a bit of early electronic music feel, which as anyone reads this knows is the highest compliment. Elements of Suspense is a very raw recording that features Mark Kissinger on prepared guitars, Ernesto Diaz-Infante on prepared guitars and vox, along with my man Rotcod Zzaj on the Kurzweill PC 88."Whoo hew is the recording out there. This is organized sound...Elements really forces you to listen to music in a different way, it's like challenged listening. There's so much happening in the dense polyphony that any melodic line or rhythm that your mind's ear grabs on to can take you to a whole new place. Cool stuff guys, keep up the great work." -- The Organization of Sound "There is something pretty spicy psychoanalytic about the goings-on across this CD, no doubt. This music is background-on-background multilayer gone haywire, and it leaves you with the pure essence of joy!" -- Sonoloco "Driving, pulsing, lo-fi, funky-noise improv that is at once engaging. The joy and delight of these three very creative musicians shine throughout this CDR as they weave their way through audio textures of great intrigue. These are some very dense sound collages that are quite enjoyable listening." -- New Creative Music 9 tracks in 60:57 minutes More ZZAJ :::>>> Tell A Friend About This CD From Drimala If you like this cd, we think you might also enjoy listening to: Sirius Intrigues (Rotcod and Diaz-Infante) Left & Right (Diaz-Infante and Chris Forsyth) Up In Flame (Loren MazzaCane Conners) Bits, Bots and Signs (Voice Crack) |
