Drimala Records Press Release

Drimala Records proudly announces the release of, Invisible Cities, featuring the living legend, Perry Robinson, and trombonist, Steve Swell in their first duo recording.

Hampton, VA - December 31, 2003 - Drimala Records proudly announces the release of Invisible Cities featuring two generations of improvisors coming together in a tour de force of improvisational intimacy.   Perry Robinson, who almost single handedly kept the jazz clarinet tradition alive throughout the 1960s-80s, is joined on Invisible Cities by New York's keeper of the trombone flame, Steve Swell.  Speaking a musical language beyond genres, styles, and time, this duet greatly expands our knowledge and understanding of the ART OF THE DUET.

About The Artists

Trombonist, Steve Swell has been living, working and performing in New York City for most of his adult life. In an effort to find his own voice on his instrument and to learn to write and arrange in a style of his own, he has sought out, performed and recorded with many of the finest composers and improvisors in the city. He has recorded and toured with such diverse jazz personalities as mainstreamers Lionel Hampton and Buddy Rich, to so-called outsiders like Anthony Braxton and Jemeel Moondoc.  When describing Steve's playing, the Village Voice put it simply, "thrilling trombone."

Long considered a living legend, Perry Robinson has been performing and recording for over 45 years throughout the world in every conceivable genre, style, and musical category.  He has appeared on over 110 recordings. The list of artists with whom he has been associated is immense in quantity, quality and stylistic diversity.  His discography reveals work with, among others, Henry Grimes, David Izenson, Gunter Hampel, the Brubecks, Tete Montoliu, Charlie Haden, Carla Bley, Archie Shepp, Bill Dixon, Mark Whitecage, John Carter, Lou Grassi, and Burton Greene.

About The Label

Drimala Records was founded in 1998 to focus on improvisational music in all its forms.  The label was the first to bypass traditional distribution routes and go directly to the listener via the internet.  Invisible Cities is another in the label's ongoing series, THE ART OF THE DUET.  Future releases by Steve Swell in the series will feature him with Dominic Duval.
