FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Drimala Records Announces Its Successful First Anniversary of Operations on the Internet.
Hampton, Virginia -- April 20th, 1999. Drimala Records was born and lives on the internet at www.drimala.com. Drimalas mission is to be "A Study in Harmony blending music, poetry, and the art of living in peace to enrich our lives via the power of the internet to create a world without borders." Focusing on improvisational music in all its forms, Drimala Records is producing music that ranges from the New American Jazz Sound, to Contemporary Classical, to Planet Beat. The common denominator is the musics honesty; composed, performed, recorded, and produced without compromise.
In 1998, Drimala Records was the first label to bypass the traditional distribution routes and go directly to the listener exclusively via the internet. This unique distribution approach enables Drimala to retain complete control of its products from studio to listener, releasing music that might otherwise never be heard.
Drimala Records first CD, Southern Extreme, featuring The Joel Futterman-Kidd Jordan Trio with Alvin Fielder, received first round Grammy nominations in 1998 for Best Packaging, Best New Artist, and Best Jazz Instrumental Performance.
Scheduled releases already in production for 1999 include Another Shining Path, featuring Gary Hassay, William Parker, and Toshi Makihara, Beyond Noend with Errante, featuring Gerry Errante and John Toomey, Bansuri Dreams, with John Wubbenhorst, and New Orleans Rising II, with the Joel Futterman-Kidd Jordan Trio.
As part of Drimala Records mission, a portion of all revenues are given to bring a small measure of hope and love to our homeless brothers and sisters in Southeastern Virginia. Currently, Drimala Records is also encouraging all its friends to make donations to Children's Aid Direct, a non-profit organization that is currently providing blankets, clothes, and other supplies to refugees from Kosovo. Visit their website at www.cad.org.uk or send a check made payable to "Mercy Corps International/Children's Aid Direct" to Drimala Records -- Children's Aid Direct, PO Box 69044, Hampton, VA 23669.
